Two of the three chelonians were accidentally captured in Benicarló and Burriana and the other in Cullera. The regional secretary, F. Colomer, the vice mayor C. Fernández and the councilor E. Llobell collaborate in the event on Voramar beach.
The Oceanogràfic Foundation and the Azul Marino Foundation released this afternoon in Benicàssim three turtles cured in the facilities of the ARCA del Mar del Oceanogràfic, in an act starring the regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, the vice mayor of the town, Cristina Fernández, and the Councilor for Beaches, Elena Llobell.
Within the collaboration agreement between both foundations, members of both institutions explained to the volunteers and other people on the Voramar beach, who came together around the release, the activity of both entities, as well as the value that represents being able to return to their natural environment to the chelonians, who have suffered the adversities of the sea.
The animals have been rescued thanks to the awareness of the fishermen of the Valencian coast, the coordination of 112 and the action of the CV Stranding Network composed of the Conselleria de Emergència Climàtica i Transició Ecologìsta, Universitat de València and Fundación Oceanogràfic.
Two turtles from the Castellón coast
The turtle registered with the number 525, weighing about 56 kilos, was accidentally captured by trawling in Benicarló and entered the ARCA del mar presenting a severe gas embolism thanks to the collaboration of the Princess vessel. It was “baptized” as Voramar and the regional secretary, two representatives of the Red Cross, Sílvia Delatorre and Cristina Barreda, and the owner of the Voramar hotel, Rafa Pallarés, helped to release it into the sea.
